Instructions for DTF transfer

Applying a DTF transfer to fabric follows a series of precise steps to ensure optimal results.

  • Fabric preparation :

○ Place the fabric on the heat press. Make sure it is smooth and wrinkle-free.

○ Preheat the fabric for a few seconds to remove any moisture and improve transfer adhesion.

  • Pattern transfer :

○ Position the DTF film with the printed side against the fabric.

○ Cover the film and fabric with a sheet of parchment paper or a Teflon sheet to protect the print.

○ Close the heat press and apply the necessary heat and pressure. Typical settings are:

Temperature: 160°C ( 320 ° F)

Pressure: Medium to high (approximately 18 lbs of pressure)

Time: 20 to 30 seconds

Applying DTF transfer with an iron can be a little trickier than with a heat press, but it's possible with a few adjustments and tips.
○ Press the iron firmly onto the Teflon sheet or parchment paper.
○ Apply 18 lbs of even pressure and hold for approximately 20 to 30 seconds.
○ Place the iron on the different parts of the design if necessary, taking care to apply constant pressure and not to move the DTF film during this operation.

○ Allow to cool completely and carefully peel the DTF film from the fabric. The design should now be transferred to the textile.
  • Final fixing :

To ensure the durability of the transfer, press the fabric covered with a Teflon sheet or parchment paper again for 10 to 20 seconds.

Practical advice :

  • Pre-test : Before transferring to a final product, carry out tests on fabric scraps to adjust the heat press parameters (temperature, pressure, time).

  • Care : Textiles with DTF transfer should be washed inside out in cold water and you should avoid bleach. Air dry or tumble dry on low heat to maximize the durability of the design.

DTF transfer is a versatile method which, when done correctly, provides high quality, durable results suitable for a wide range of textiles.
